Our Ethical Framework

We prioritise insurers and underwriting partners with minimal exposure to fossil fuels, weapons, and detention industries. To inform these decisions, we draw on publicly available research, including the Boycott Bloody Insurance insurer-grading table and the Insure Our Future Scorecard, both of which assess insurers’ involvement in high-carbon or socially harmful sectors. These datasets are currently the most comprehensive comparative sources of their kind, although they remain incomplete and subject to change as transparency in the sector evolves.

Because insurer disclosures are still limited, and certain classes of risk have few ethical alternatives, we cannot guarantee zero exposure. Our approach is to place business, wherever commercially and operationally viable, with the most responsible insurers available—not to claim perfection. Where no insurer meets our criteria, we are fully transparent with clients about the limitations of the current market.

Driving Transparency in Insurance Capital Flows

Most policyholders have little visibility into where their premiums are ultimately invested or what industries their insurers may underwrite. Disclosure standards remain inconsistent across the market. Campaigns such as Boycott Bloody Insurance and Insure Our Future contribute valuable evidence that helps create accountability, and we regard their work as important in highlighting the current opacity in the sector.

Beyond Offsetting

While we consider ourselves a nature-positive organisation and support environmental initiatives, we do not rely solely on offsetting gestures such as tree-planting or charitable donations to address environmental impact.

Our principal means of influence is placement choice: directing premium volume toward insurers that demonstrate progress on ethical and sustainability metrics.
